Can air quality affect skin health? A dermatologist explains as more Canadian wildfire smoke hits the U.S.

  As Canadian wildfire smoke continues to blanket parts of the U.S. and endanger the health of millions of people, experts say there is an organ that requires just as much attention as your lungs: your skin. “Pollution can damage the skin by a lot of the same mechanisms that UV radiation can,” Dr. Shayan Cheraghlou, a resident dermatology physician in New York City, told CBS News. “That’s by generating reactive oxygen species that can cause premature aging of the skin, [and] can exacerbate underlying skin conditions like eczema or other inflammatory skin conditions.” Reactive oxygen species, according to the National Cancer Institute, are a “type of unstable molecule” that can damage DNA.   Oakland, Calif. — Domingo Germán of the New York Yankees pitched the 24th perfect game in major league history Wednesday night, retiring all 27 Oakland batters in an 11-0 victory over the Athletics. It was the first perfect game since Seattle Mariners ace Félix Hernández threw one against the Tampa Bay Rays on Aug. 15, 2012. There were three that season – but none since until Germán finished the first no-hitter in the big leagues this year. He joined Don Larsen (1956), David Wells (1998) and David Cone (1999) as Yankees pitchers to throw perfect games. Larsen’s came in Game 5 of the 1956 World Series against the Brooklyn Dodgers. It was the first time in his Yankee career that Germán pitched an entire game, all nine innings, CBSSports.com’s Matt Snyder points out.   Alphabet, the parent company of Google, has previously attempted and failed to bring internet access to rural and remote areas using stratospheric balloons.Now, however, the company delivers internet service to remote areas using light beams.The Taara project is a part of Alphabet’s X innovation lab, also known as the “Moonshot Factory.” It was initiated in 2016 after attempts to deliver th internet via stratospheric balloons failed due to high costs, according to company executives.Taara’s leader, Mahesh Krishnaswamy, stated that things are progressing better this time.Executives from Taara and Bharti Airtel, two of India’s largest telecommunications and internet service providers, told Reuters that they are moving toward a larger-scale deployment of the new laser internet technology in India. GOP-led House panel accuses cybersecurity agency of violating citizens' civil liberties

  The federal government agency charged with protecting critical infrastructure and guarding against cybersecurity threats is accused of “exceeding its statutory authority” in its post-2016-election efforts to monitor domestic social media for evidence of misinformation, disinformation and malinformation, according to a House Republican-led committee’s interim report. The House Judiciary Committee and Subcommittee on Weaponization of the Federal Government issued a report accusing the Critical Infrastructure and Cybersecurity Agency, or CISA, of facilitating the “censorship of Americans directly and through third-party intermediaries.” The committee’s investigation cites internal Department of Homeland Security emails and meeting notes.  The core claims of the 41-page report focus on changes at the agency since the 2016 election.  A January 2017 report from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence found Russian effor
