Madonna delays tour following intensive care stay

 


After being admitted to a hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU) with a serious bacterial infection, Madonna has postponed her world tour.According to her manager, the infection was “serious” and required a “multi-day stay in the ICU.” He added that a total recovery is anticipated.Guy Oseary stated in a statement that Madonna’s health is improving, but she is still receiving medical care.Madonna, 64, was anticipated to begin her 84-date tour the following month.According to US media, she is reportedly receiving treatment at a hospital in New York City.By embarking on her very first greatest hits tour, the pop icon planned to commemorate the 40th anniversary of her breakthrough single, Holiday.The Celebration Tour would mark the singer’s return to arenas and stadiums following her 2019 and 2020 Madame X theatre performances.Due to the star’s knee and hip injuries, a portion of these performances were canceled.“Sorry I had to cancel tonight,” the celebrity wrote on Instagram after canceling a Lisbon performance scheduled for 2020, “but I must listen to my body and rest!”The latest Madonna tour was scheduled to begin in Vancouver, Canada, on July 15 and conclude in Mexico City on January 30.However, according to the singer-songwriter’s manager, she contracted a “serious bacterial infection” on Saturday, June 24; as a result, she must cancel all upcoming engagements.The UK and Europe portion of her tour was scheduled to begin and end at the O2 Arena in London on October 14.In January, when announcing the tour, she told fans, “I am excited to explore as many songs as possible to give my fans the performance they’ve been anticipating.”Madonna’s greatest hits span multiple decades, including, for example, Into The Groove (1985), Like A Prayer (1989), Vogue (1990), and Hung Up (2005).Madonna, who is notoriously private about her health, was likely in the final stages of a rehearsal regimen in preparation for her tour.After completing her Sticky & Sweet Tour in 2009, she was awarded the Guinness World Record for the highest-grossing music tour by a female artist.Forbes ranks her as the 45th richest self-made woman in the United States, with an estimated net worth of $580 million (£460 million), and states that she has earned an estimated $1.2 billion from tours.She has six offspring.
