Things to avoid if you have HIV
Some individuals living with HIV may think that their behavior no longer matters because they are already infected. This mindset is incorrect. Being HIV positive doesn't mean you should stop protecting yourself from other viruses and diseases.
If you are HIV positive, it's important to read this at home. This information can be very helpful. I want to address two important points today, so please read until the end. This message is not only for those who are HIV positive but for everyone.
Even if you are HIV negative, continuing to read will help increase awareness and promote self-care.
Here are two things to avoid if you have been diagnosed with HIV:
1. Promiscuity
Some people may engage in promiscuous behavior with the intent of spreading the virus after discovering they have HIV. Infecting others will not improve your situation and can make it worse.
There is a risk of encountering someone who is also HIV positive but carries a different strain of the virus, which can be dangerous. This is particularly problematic if the other person’s strain is resistant to certain antiretrovirals and is transmitted to you.
2. Substance Abuse
Substance abuse involves using certain chemicals to produce pleasurable effects on the brain. It is often the reason why some HIV positive individuals fail to adhere to their treatment. Being under the influence can make it difficult to remember to take antiretroviral medications.
Skipping treatment can lead to illness because you are no longer taking medication to control the virus in your body. The more the virus replicates, the higher the chances of becoming ill.
This does not mean that an HIV positive person cannot enjoy life. Everyone deserves happiness. If you drink alcohol, do so responsibly.
Thank you for your time. I hope you have a great day.
